  24.      Jehovah showed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs set before the temple
  25. of Jehovah, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive
  26. Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with
  27. the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
  28. One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the
  29. other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
  30. Then said Jehovah unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah?  And I said, Figs; the
  31. good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, that cannot be eaten, they are so
  32. bad.

  34.      And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, the God
  35. of Israel: Like these good figs, so will I regard the captives of Judah, whom
  36. I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good. For I
  37. will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this
  38. land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them,
  39. and not pluck them up.  And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am
  40. Jehovah: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God; for they shall
  41. return unto me with their whole heart.

  43.      And as the bad figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so bad, surely thus
  44. saith Jehovah, So will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes,
  45. and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in
  46. the land of Egypt, I will even give them up to be ^3 tossed to and fro among
  47. all the kingdoms of the earth for evil; to be a reproach and a proverb, a
  48. taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them.  And I will send
  49. the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed
  50. from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.
